Commissioner Karachi Division launched its first ever ‘Pur Aman’ Karachi newsletter at an impressive ceremony at Marriott in order to spread a positive and peaceful image of the city. This monthly newsletter comprises of all the uplifting projects administered by Commissioner Karachi as per the instructions of Government of Sindh.
It was briefed at the launch that the newsletter includes various sections such as health, youth affairs, sports, education, environment, disaster management, social issues, price control and other activities which are being undertaken for the felicitation of the masses. This will make citizens aware about the developmental projects being administered and also encourage them, especially youth, to come forward and collaborate with the government.
Additionally, Commissioner Karachi website was also launched along with the newsletter which was demonstrated on the multimedia at the ceremony. The website functions to update the citizens about latest news from Commissioner Karachi Division, daily price lists and allows them to register and subscribe to the monthly newsletter.
More importantly, the website has dedicated a section which easily allows people, especially fresh job seekers, to upload their CV’s through a form and directly send it to ‘Placement Bureau’; an initiative by Commissioner Karachi Division to eradicate unemployment in the city.
Honorable Chief Secretary Sindh Sajjad Saleem Hotiana graced the occasion as a chief guest. He believed that Karachi being the most populous city of Pakistan faces issues which are normally common in developing nations. Nevertheless, he assured that Government of Sindh is taking possible measures for the development of Karachi and betterment of its citizens.
Chief Secretary said interaction between administration and citizens is a compulsion to rectify the issues encountered by the citizens and ‘Pur Aman’ Karachi Newsletter launched by Commissioner Karachi was a practical initiative in this regard. He further lauded the efforts of Commissioner Karachi by stating that under his administration developmental projects are being conducted efficiently and effectively.
He stressed upon the fact that government officials should be active on social media and take advantage out of it in order to publicly connect with citizens, and hence this can resolve numerable metropolis problems.
Chief Secretary recollected his memory when he was in Gilgit- Baltistan, he faced difficulties in interacting with the locals as they lived in far-flung areas. However, in order to combat this difficulty he created a ‘Facebook’ account to interact with people to inform them about the ongoing projects and to understand their concerns. He felt that it was valuable to see that Karachiites can be updated about developments of their local areas through the official newsletter.
Commissioner Karachi Shoaib Ahmad Siddiqui informed that the purpose of launching the newsletter was to spread a positive image of the city and bridge the gap between administration and its citizens. He claimed that citizens of Karachi should approach Commissioner Office for their issues without any hesitation and can log their complaints on the official website. This would help Karachi to go on the road of prosperity and will help the administration to be conscious about citizens’ concerns.
He appreciated the efforts of Mr. Shahzaib Shaikh, Assistant Commissioner General and editor of the newsletter to help serve the purpose.
Legendary dramatist Haseen Moin stated that when youth of any part of land struggle to dig out success then nothing could prevent the nation from becoming successful.
Also, she praised the Commissioner for his interests in poetry, literature, art and other cultural activities along with civic subjects.
“I wish if we could photocopy the Commissioner to produce another hundred Commissioners like this one, it will surely be in the interest of Karachi,” Moin added.
IG Sindh Ghulam Haider Jamali stressed to promote public regulation and de-weaponization in the society. He also felt that it is important to include a section of crime report in the newsletter.
The launch ceremony was largely attended by Administrator Karachi Rauf Akhter Farooqui, Station Commander Karachi Brig Farrukh Waseem Khan, Representatives of Russian Consulate, British Council, Karachi airport, Disaster Management, U-fone, Youth Parliament members, editors/writers, artists and other organizations. They all vowed to strengthen their support for this social cause for the betterment of Karachi and valued the efforts of the administration.
The present Organizations, Consulates, Airport were requested to place ‘Pur Aman’ newsletter in their waiting areas/lounges so that people from within the city, out of the city and abroad could be enlightened positively, and hence this would help to make Karachi a safer place to live in..
