Karachi Division consists of Seven Districts where Commissioner is the administrative head of the Karachi Division. Commissioner is the principal representative of Provincial Government in the Division. The Office of the Commissioner aims at integrated development for efficient public service delivery with an emphasis on timely redressal of their grievances. Office of Commissioner, Karachi coordinates with all allied departments for execution of government policies and providing relief to the public. The main functions of Commissioner Office, Karachi Division are stated as follows:
- Overall responsible for Revenue Recovery and Revenue Administration
- Responsible for overall administration in the Division
- To coordinate between the Province & the Districts, through the District Coordination Officers for subject pertaining to the Provincial Government.
- To ensure proper implementation of policies of the Provincial Government.
- Inter District and Inter / Intra Divisional Coordination.
- To supervise the development projects in Karachi.
- To oversee and coordinate development activities undertaken by the Districts and Provincial Government.
- To promote Private Section Development within the Division.
- To monitor the performance of the offices of Director, Anti-Corruption Establishment and District Public Prosecutors.
- Responsible for Relief and Disaster Management.
- Monitoring of technical, vocational and higher education institutes.
- To perform all functions delegated by the Provincial Government from time to time.
- Protocol and coordination duties during the visits of VVIPs.
The Deputy Commissioner is the administrative head of the district who works under the direct supervision and control of Commissioner, Karachi. The Seven Districts of Karachi are outlined below:
